Number 6 Stamford - Boutique Townhouse

For up to 6 People

About the Accommodation

A beautiful, 300 year old stone faced, Grade II listed townhouse in the heart of Stamford - a few steps away from the High St.

Newly renovated and restored, the house now combines modern living & home comforts with restored original features - a large stone fireplace with log burner, custom made kitchen, gorgeous bathroom & shower rooms, and 3 great bedrooms, making Number 6 the perfect base for exploring and enjoying the unique delights of Stamford, Burghley House and the surrounding area.

The space

Lisa and I have spent a year renovating Number 6 - from top to bottom, inside and out. From fully renovated stonework, brand new windows, and lovely new front door, on the front, to a fantastic new decked courtyard at the rear, the outside has had the love it deserves. Inside, we have created a beautiful, stylish and unique space - highlighting all of the original character of this lovely building, but adding some great modern touches.

It looks as though it is straight from the pages of a glossy magazine and for those who love Instagram, you will not be disappointed with the photographic opportunities! Number 6 is a 3 bedroom house. The Master and the Top Floor bedrooms have permanent (and very luxurious) King sized beds, whilst the 3rd is usually set up as a Day Bed, but this will be made up as a single bed if 5 guests are staying, or a double bed if 6 are staying. The Master Bedroom and Day Bed Room share the shower room, whilst the Top Floor bedroom is a suite with its own bathroom.

Downstairs, the sitting room is extremely comfortable, and boasts a log burner (perfect for evenings in!), a Smart TV (So you can sign in to Netflix, Amazon Video, etc.) and a Sonos speaker (for streaming music / radio).

The kitchen is small but perfectly appointed - with a Hide & Slide Neff oven, AEG induction hob and extractor, Bosch dishwasher - plus a built-in microwave and fridge. It is so lovely, it is almost tempting to cook rather than eat out!

Number 6 is a fantastic base from which to enjoy and explore Stamford itself. The top of the main (pedestrianised) High Street starts opposite the M&S Food store, which is only 4 doors away. Within a stone's throw of the front door are some amazing independent restaurants, pubs and coffee shops - as well as some of the better known chains, if you really must have a Costa!

Guest access

Guests will have access to the entire house, and if 5 guests are booked the Day Bed will be converted into a full 3ft wide single bed or full size double bed if 6 are staying, complete with all bedding. Should 4 or fewer guests be staying, this will remain as a Day Bed (with no linen / towels) and must not be used for overnight accommodation.

Notes

As Number 6 is a 300 year old house, there are a few areas where guests need to take additional care.

Whilst the ceiling heights on the ground and 1st floor are actually very good, the doorway through to the kitchen is low - anyone average height or above should duck!

The stairs to the 1st floor are uneven (but are protected as a Listed Building), and the stairs to the 2nd (Top) floor do not have full headroom - so going up and down these stairs in particular will need extra care, and is not recommended for the elderly or infirm.

Leaving via the front door, you will step straight onto the narrow pavement - so please take care when coming and going.

The heating is controlled by a Nest thermostat downstairs. Please do not adjust the individual radiators - but instead, lower or raise the temperature by turning the Nest control until the desired temperature is reached.

The bathroom, shower room and kitchen also have underfloor heating, but this is a secondary heat source, and the thermostats for this cannot be altered by guests.

Smoking is strictly forbidden anywhere on the property, including the courtyard.

Parties and events are also strictly forbidden.

Neighbourhood

"Proclaimed by Sir Walter Scott as “the finest stone town in England”, Stamford was declared a conservation area in 1967. It has over 600 listed buildings of mellow limestone in the town centre including five medieval churches, all real gems."

Lisa and I love spending time in Stamford. It boasts some amazing pubs (The Tobie Norris and the Kings Head are both less than 200m away), independent restaurants and shops, and lots of great eateries, cafes and breakfast options - and is a fantastic place to wander around.

Stamford is also very well known for its stately home neighbour, Burghley House. Home of the globally renowed Burghley Horse Trials, the House also hosts many shows, events, festivals and fairs throughout the year - but even when there's nothing formal happening, it is still an amazing house and grounds to visit.

Stamford is also only a few miles from nearby Rutland Water - so if you're looking for a base to explore both town and countryside, Nuimber 6 is the perfect place to be...

Transport

Although there is no parking immediately outside, there is short term on-street parking just around the corner (St Leonard's Street), where you can park for 2 hours (and load/unload easily). Longer term,

Lisa and I usually park either in St Leonards Street car park or Wharf Road car park. Charges apply (Mon to Sat), but we can then usually forget about the car for the entire stay and explore Stamford on foot.

St Leonard's Car Park is approx 100-200m from Number 6, whilst Wharf Road is approx. 3-5 minutes walk.

Stamford has a station, which is approx. 7 minutes walk away.
